Where to get into the Holiday Spirit in Washington, D.C


They say, “there’s no place like home for the holidays,” and at The Mayflower, we could not agree more. Guests are invited to stroll our famed promenade and take in all the trees, lights and music to help get you into the holiday spirit beginning on November 22nd and running through the holiday season.


One of the hottest holiday tickets in town is for the 100th anniversary of the national tree lighting. Taking place on December 2nd, the ceremony is a ticketed event but don’t worry if you miss the lighting; the display is free to visit and open to the public beginning on December 4th from 10:00am -10:00pm daily.

From November 18 – January 8, 2023, explore the many neighborhoods of Washington, DC with the DC Holiday Lights project. From Logan and Dupont Circle to Chevy Chase and Tenleytown, each neighborhood will have festive lights for all to enjoy.

Washington, DC celebrates the festival of lights with the annual
lighting of the National Menorah. This year’s lighting will take place on December 18th and tickets are required to attend. This annual Chanukah celebration takes place on the ellipse and includes surprise guests, musical performances and the lighting of the menorah.

For a luxury tree lighting and shopping experience, head on over to CityCenter DC. Their annual tree lighting takes place on November 26th and remains on display through the season to be enjoyed while
you shop!

Holiday Shopping in Washington, DC

We love shopping local during the holidays and with so many holiday popups and markets within walking distance to The Mayflower, you don’t have to go far to find the perfect gift!


We are thrilled to be partnering with the White House Historical Association this year to offer locals and guests a shopping experience that is sure to get you into the holiday spirit. Located off the lobby, the popup will run from November through February, Monday through Saturday 10:00am – 7:00pm, Sunday, 12:00pm – 5:00pm and will offer this year’s White House ornament and gifts for all ages.


With locations throughout the city and now in Maryland and Virginia, the Shop Made storefronts offer eclectic gifts all made within the DMV. From DC’s famous mumbo sauce to art inspired by the region’s landmarks, there is a gift for every taste!

A DC tradition! Discover trinkets, artwork and unique gifts at the Downtown Holiday Market. Open daily from November 18 through December 3 (closed Thanksgiving Day and December 5) from from noon – 8:00pm

Celebrating its 10th year, this German-inspired craft market is back this December! From December 2-4 guests are invited to stroll this festive outdoor experience. This year’s market will feature over 50 local small-scale makers, activities for children and more. This is a ticketed event with the proceeds going to support the museum’s Small Business Development Program, which now supports hundreds of local small businesses.

On December 3rd from noon – 5:00pm this popular neighborhood holiday pop up returns with vendors selling jewelry, paintings, woodwork, prints and treats. The market is free to enter, and all are welcome, rain or shine!

White House Historical Association x The Mayflower Pop-Up Shop

This year, The Mayflower has partnered with the White House Historical Association for our first in-person holiday pop-up store featuring the Official 2022 White House Christmas Ornament and an assortment of keepsake holiday gifts honoring the rich White House history.

The pop-up shop will run from November 14, 2022, through the end of February 2023 and is open daily from 10:00am-7:00pm, Sundays 12-5:00pm.

Holiday gifts include this year’s ornament, which represents the cherished White House tradition of displaying a gingerbread house each holiday in the State Dining Room, the White House Gingerbread Kit, White House greeting cards depicting the gingerbread display, the Jacqueline Candle, a rose and sandalwood candle inspired by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s favorite scent and the Gingerbread Candle, which features a warm, comforting scent of gingerbread made in partnership with the Harlem Candle Company.
